SGT. STUBBY
The titular hero of Fun Academy Motion Pictures’ animated feature film becomes ambassador for service animals and rescue organizations nationwide

COLUMBUS, GEORGIA (March 22, 2018)—Fun Academy Motion Pictures, producer of the upcoming animated feature film SGT. STUBBY: AN AMERICAN HERO, is pleased to announce their partnership with the Richmond SPCA as part of an on-going effort to highlight the important role rescue animals play in society through the true story of America’s most renowned stray dog. The film is set to theatrically debut on April 13, 2018.

SGT. STUBBY: AN AMERICAN HERO is based on the life and times of Stubby, a homeless mutt who became a national hero during the First World War. After being rescued off the streets by a young American Soldier, Stubby was given a name, family, and the chance to perform acts of valor beyond his stature. After the war, Sgt. Stubby was featured in newspapers and parades around the country; today, he is still recognized as the most decorated canine in American history.

“SGT. STUBBY is such an amazing story of faith and courage, so with this project comes a sense of responsibility to use our platform for good,” said Jacy Jenkins, Vice President of Partnerships and Outreach for Fun Academy. “These animal organizations are in the trenches everyday helping dogs just like Stubby find a home and we want to give back to them.”

The Richmond SPCA is partnering with Fun Academy for the film’s release in theaters across Virginia. The private nonprofit is Central Virginia’s oldest, full-service, no-kill humane organization.

“As all of us who have opened our hearts to adopt a homeless animal can tell you, dogs are capable of doing incredible things. Rescuing a dog will change both your life and his,” said Robin Robertson Starr, chief executive officer of the Richmond SPCA. “We are eager to see this important message come to life on screen in the story of Sgt. Stubby.”

“Stubby is the ultimate zero-to-hero story,” explains producer Richard Lanni. “There is no greater poster boy for what animals can do when given a chance in life, regardless of their origins.”
