Pets for Patriots

Did you know physical contact with pets lowers stress and blood pressure levels and combats depression? We do! And we’re delivering all of these benefits and more to veterans and active-duty service members through our special Pets for Patriots adoption program, thanks the generous support of Aarrow Transmissions & Automotive. Read more about the health benefits associated with pet companionship.

The Richmond SPCA is proud to be part of the Pets for Patriots nationwide network of trusted adoption agencies. Veterans and active-duty service members interested in applying to become a member Patriot should apply online with Pets for Patriots.

Proud Supporter of Pets for Patriots

Benefits of the program include:

  • Personalized assistance from Richmond SPCA adoption staff in finding a qualified cat or dog who fits the adopter’s home and lifestyle
  • For cats: a free starter kit (which includes a litter box, food and water bowl, a litter scoop, a toy, and litter liner bags) and a cardboard scratcher
  • For dogs: a free leash and collar, food and water bowl and a toy
  • Reduced adoption fee of $50
  • Member Patriots may become clients of our low-cost Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital

Veteran and active-duty service member adopters are encouraged to visit or contact our adoption center at 804-521-1307. Our experienced and knowledgeable adoption counselors will be happy to assist you in finding the perfect cat or dog for your lifestyle and can answer any questions you may have related to this program. Thank you for opening your heart and home to a pet in need of your love and attention!
