Update (November 17, 2014): If you are not currently a client of the Clinic for Compassionate Care, please be advised that due to exceedingly high demand for our low-cost services, we are not able to accept new full-service clients, excluding adopters from the Richmond SPCA and veterinary referrals on a case-by-case basis, at this time. The mission of the Clinic for Compassionate Care is to provide low-cost access to quality veterinary care. Area families with limited incomes can trust their pets' ongoing care and wellness to our team of experienced and well-qualified veterinarians and support staff for annual exams, ongoing wellness and in the event of sickness or injury. The clinic operates at the same standard of care as any private veterinary practice.
Accepted forms of payment are cash and credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover). Payment is due at the time of service.
Please Note: Failure to cancel or reschedule an appointment 24 hours in advance will require you to pay a non-refundable deposit of $20 when scheduling future appointments. Should you be required to pay an advance deposit, that deposit will be applied to your bill at the time of your visit.
Pets must be spayed or neutered. Documentation of your pet's surgery (receipt or medical record) is required. If your pet is not spayed or neutered, but he or she is 1-year-old or younger, an appointment for low-cost surgery through our Smoky's Spay/Neuter Clinic will be made following the pet's initial examination.

We advise that your initial visit should be scheduled when your pet is in reasonably good health rather than waiting until your pet is presenting with symptoms of illness or injury. This is because, due to high demand for our services, first-available appointments for new clients are typically scheduled two to three weeks after your initial request.
All recipients of government assistance qualify as clients. Additionally, guardians meeting the income thresholds outlined below qualify.

As a benefit of adopting from the Richmond SPCA, all pets adopted after March 5, 2012, along with any other dogs or cats residing in the adopters' household, qualify to become patients of the Clinic for Compassionate Care. We send adopters home with a certificate for a fee-waived examination if your pet displays any symptom of illness within 7 days of your adoption, or 10% off your first bill if your appointment is scheduled after 7 days of the date of your adoption.
Patients referred by another veterinary office due to financial limitations of their guardians qualify to become clients of the Clinic for Compassionate Care. Referring veterinarians are asked to call our reception staff and ask to speak with a doctor regarding the client.
The Richmond SPCA is committed to ending the loss of life for treatable and rehabilitatable homeless pets throughout our community. Pets in need of veterinary care while in the custody of area pounds and shelters remain an at risk population, which is why access to the Clinic for Compassionate Care has been extended to all government shelters within our service area.
