Angela Ivey, DVM
Director of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Ivey is a native of Kentucky. She was accepted by Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine early decision from the University of Louisville, where she was majoring in biology. She earned her doctor of veterinary medicine from Auburn in 1985. For nearly 20 years, Dr. Ivey worked in private practice, running a successful clinic she started in Colonial Heights along with a satellite clinic she opened in Chester.

She joined the staff of the Richmond SPCA in 2004. As director of veterinary medicine, she oversees the provision of all professional veterinary services, including those delivered to pets in the care of the Richmond SPCA awaiting adoption as well as those who are patients of the Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital.

Tori Williams
Senior Hospital Manager

Tori graduated in 2011 from Longwood University and began working in customer service after moving to Richmond. During her time at Longwood, Tori worked in a veterinary hospital and loved the fast-paced environment and she hoped to find a career that would combine her love for animals with her natural customer service skills. Tori joined the Richmond SPCA in October 2012 as a retail sales associate in our Lora Robins Gift Shop. She provided outstanding customer service as a retail associate and in early 2013 Tori transitioned to our Clinic for Compassionate Care as a receptionist. Soon after joining our clinic staff, Tori was promoted to the coordinator of client services and then senior hospital manager of the area's first full-service, low-cost veterinary hospital, the Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital, which opened in January 2016.

Dr. Bowers

Courtney Bowers, DVM
Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Bowers joined the Susan M. Markel Veterinary staff in April of 2016, just months after it opened. She received her undergraduate degree from the College of Charleston in South Carolina and went on to graduate from the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. An equine internship brought Dr. Bowers to the Richmond area and she began generously donating her time and veterinary skills to the Richmond SPCA before joining the staff full time. When she is not helping patients in the Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Bowers is spending time with her two dogs, Luke and Violet, as well as her cat, Junior, and horse, Pedro.

Erin Willard, LVT
Coordinator of Patient Services

Erin began working in the veterinary field in 2001 and immediately knew she had a passion for helping animals. She pursued that passion and graduated with an Associates in Veterinary Technology degree from Blue Ridge Community College in 2010. With experience in exotics, wildlife, small and large animal medicine, Erin came to the Richmond SPCA with years of experience and a desire to help save lives. What she loves most about her job is seeing the bond between guardians and their pets and wants to ensure she is able to help those guardians provide the best veterinary care possible for their precious companions. Erin's family includes two rescue dogs, Roxy and Scout, who she loves to pamper.

Shane Clements
Coordinator of Client Services

Shane has been with the Richmond SPCA since she began as a communications intern in January of 2014. A graduate from Virginia Commonwealth University, Shane has held multiple positions in different departments in the Richmond SPCA including volunteer and programs assistant and client service representative in the Clinic for Compassionate Care. She began her role as coordinator of client services in August of 2015 and now serves that role in the Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital. In her free time, Shane can be found spoiling her four dogs and two cats.

Heather Johnson, LVT

Heather joined the Richmond SPCA in December 2008. Previously she worked as a kennel tech and graduated with honors from Blue Ridge Community College. As a licensed veterinary technician in the Clinic for Compassionate Care, Heather acts as a surgical tech and is happy to help with whatever needs doing in the clinic. She's also the proud guardian to four miniature long-haired dachsunds.

In addition to the team members whose biographies are above, we also have a wonderful and dedicated team of veterinary assistants and customer service representatives who look forward to helping you and your pet!
