PET PANTRY

The Pet Pantry is a service of the Richmond SPCA’s Project Safety Net program and is made possible through the generous contributions of community members and businesses and Richmond Animal Care & Control. For Greater Richmond area individuals and families (residents of the City of Richmond or the counties of Hanover, Henrico, Chesterfield and Goochland) who are unable to feed their pets, the Richmond SPCA will assist by providing temporary pet food assistance.

This service is being offered to households in need of short-term help with the cost of food (for their owned animals) and that intend to keep their pets and not relinquish them to the Robins-Starr Humane Center or any other shelter in the Greater Richmond community.

Richmond SPCA Pet Pantry Guidelines:

  • Recipients must complete an application to receive food; information supplied will be kept confidential. Click here to submit application online or click here to download and print the application.
  • Food is distributed on Tuesday and Friday (between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.) each week, and an appointment is required.
  • Only one applicant per household.
  • The quantity of pet food received will depend upon the number of owned pets (cats and dogs only), their size, and the available supply at the time of distribution.
  • Requests for specific food types will be considered (i.e. senior, large breed, etc.), however, the Richmond SPCA will only be able to provide what is available from donated supplies.
  • The Richmond SPCA reserves the right to deny food to anyone under any circumstances or to make exceptions based on individual need.
  • Food provided through this service may not be resold; if the Richmond SPCA determines that food has been resold, the household and each of its members will no longer benefit from the program.
  • Service recipients must pick up food from the Richmond SPCA’s Robins-Starr Humane Center.
  • The Richmond SPCA offers temporary pet food assistance; this service is not intended to supply food permanently.
  • The Richmond SPCA Pet Pantry accepts donations of all kinds of unopened cat and dog food.
