  We stand for the principle
 that every life is precious.

We announced today that we will begin construction to permanently establish our low-cost veterinary hospital and to expand our training offerings for the public. With less than 10 percent of our goal left to raise, we are beginning construction on this crucial project with confidence the remaining funds will be raised within the next few months. We have been offering full-service veterinary care at a low cost on a pilot basis, and these services will be permanently established upon completion of the Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital. To help us raise just under $1 million to fully reach our goal, please click here or call the Richmond SPCA's development office at 804-521-1308.

The Live to Serve platform allows you to support the pets in our care through purchases from local merchants. There are a variety of dining options and other activities to choose from and at least 50 percent of every voucher purchased will be given to support our programs and services.

We offer a variety of pet training classes to help you and your furry friend grow together. From basic manners to agility classes, our talented and knowledgeable training staff will put you and your pet on the track to happiness. Learn more and register now.

The Richmond SPCA is an independent nonprofit, which is not a chapter or affiliate of any other organization with Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in its name, including but not limited to the ASPCA.

Understanding dog communication is the key to preventing dog bites
I often see people allowing their children to do things with and to their dogs that just make me cringe. Pulling on them, yanking things away from them, yelling at them, holding and tugging the leash when the child lacks the physical strength and the mature judgment to manage that...
